OPEN MEN’S SWC REPORT By DAVID HERON

The first round of the State-Wide Challenge was held at The North Launceston Bowls & Community Club on Sunday 3rd December. A significant change was the re inclusion of The Tasmanian Team into the series in the hope of providing a higher level of competition & a more professional preparation.

The Bowls North Open Men were represented by:

Rink 1.  M Jackson (Longford), O Morrison (Longford), J Thomas (Longford) & C Roach (Longford) (Skip).

Rink 2. J Frost (Westbury), P Costello (East Launceston), B Avent (East Launceston) & K Walker (East Launceston) (Skip).

Rink 3. S Zeuschner (Kings Meadows), D Burke (Westbury), T Stewart (Launceston) & A Page (Kings Meadows) (Skip).

The Morning game saw us face the North West team with Aaron Page winning by 5 shots, Kane Walker losing by 6 shots & Chris Roach winning by 7 shots, an overall win on two rinks by 6 shots. This was a remarkable win as we trailed by 26 shots with 18 ends to play. Over the last 6 ends on each rink, Aaron Page’s rink scored 16 shots to 1, Kane Walker’s rink scored 11 shots to 1 with Chris Roach’s rink scoring 8 shots to 1 to pull off a 32 shot turnaround over the concluding 18 ends.

In the other game, the Tasmanian Team defeated the South by 11 shots on two rinks

We played the Southern team in the Afternoon game with Aaron Page winning by 15 shots, Kane Walker losing by 4 shots & Chris Roach winning by 2 shots. This resulted in an overall win by 13 shots on two rinks leaving Bowls North on top of the points table.

The Tasmanian Team defeated the North West by 8 shots with rinks shared including a draw.

The next round will be played on The North West Coast on Sunday 28th January.
