Let Kids be Kids in Sport Workshop

Come join Clubs Tasmania and Dr. Mary Woessner – Researcher and Lecturer from Victoria University for an hour and a half. The workshop will focus on how we as a community can let kids be kids in sport! Australia is a sporting nation and Tassie is no exception, but sometimes it’s too easy to get caught up in the competition element of sport and forget about why kids want to play sport- to have fun, learn new skills and connect with friends. We all have a role to play in ensuring the kids have a great experience in sport, and part of that responsibility means promoting a safe and supportive environment. In this workshop we will discuss what’s behind the numbers of kids participating or dropping out of sport. We will take a deep dive into what it means in practice to recognise and respond to poor behaviours in sport, and also how we can help prevent them in the first place. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to connect and collectively problem solve with a diverse range of community sport members. This workshop is not about giving you all the answers, but aims to promote self-reflection, to start conversations and to think about what we can all do to make a positive impact. We will provide you with some resources and activities but hope you will come ready to share your own challenges and opportunities for creating a safe sport space where we can get back to letting kids be kids.
