Chris Lee and Courtney Hobbs – Champion of Champions 2018-2019

Men’s Champion of Champions.

Seven clubs were represented yesterday at Bowls North Champion of Champions event for 2018-19.

In the first round – David Minns,North Launceston, had a comfortable win against Launceston Robert Booth.

An outstanding game of draw bowling was witnessed by the spectators between Kings Meadows Shane Gurr and lnvermay’s Chris Lee, with Chris Lee winning the game 21-17.

Trevallyn’s young gun Josh Walker-Davis took on Cosgrove Park’s Bryon Slater in the semi-final with Josh winning 21-16 in another great game. David Minns then took on Chris Lee in the other with both players unable to get the upper hand with David picking up 6 shoots in 4 ends to have the score sit at 17 all before Chris Lee scored the winning shots.

The final was set between Trevallyn’s Josh Walker-Davis and lnvermay’s Chris Lee and once again the draw bowling by both players was magic to watch. The game see-sawed in the early ends until Chris Lee was able to score a 3 and proceed on to win the final. Final score was .21-14

In the Women’s section 10 clubs were represented.

Westbury’s Bev Huett and Kings Meadows’ Maggie Campbell played. Maggie gained the upper hand early with Bev fighting back from a 9-shot deficit to win 21-19.

West Launceston’s Bev Smith took on Longford champion Patricia Freeman and the game could have been won by either player. Patricia winning by a 4 shot margin, 21-17.

Launceston Lyn Cornelius took on Kim Saunders. Lyn was leading in the early stages until Kim was able to score 2 shots for the next 5 ends to win the game 21-15.

Rae Simpson took on Patricia Freeman. Patricia was lethal with her last bowl and on many ends scored the shot required to win the end. Rae picked up multiple shots over the next few ends to win the game 21-17.

Scottsdale’s Helen Pola played Pauline Haigh in another even match early, but Helen was unable to stop Pauline from winning the last 7 ends and winning the game. 21-14.

Courtney Hobbs took on Pauline Haigh in one semi with Courtney dominating the match winning her way into the final 21-8.

Rae Simpson and Kim Saunders were the opponents in the other semi with Kim unable to keep Rae at bay, with Rae winning 21-10.

In the final Courtney was able to score multiple shots in the first few ends, and she continued to win the final 21-10.
