BN Novice Singles Report

The Bowls North Novice Singles Championship was played on March 17, 2019 at Kings Meadows Bowls Club with 11 clubs represented in the Men’s section and 4 in the Women’s.

Excellent bowling was witnessed by over 60 spectators with some very long and evenly match games of singles played by those entered.

Special mention must go to twelve-year-old Xavier House from Exeter. Xavier never gave up during his match against lnvermay’s Stephen Hall. Xavier was super eager to go out in the next round and mark a game. He showed true sportsmanship for a young junior bowler.

Semi Finals came down to the following players –

Andrew Howard (North) Vs Stephen Hall (Inv) and Stephen Timmins (West) Vs Paul Costello (L’ton)

Andrew Howard and Paul Costello both won their games and progressed to the final. For two players who are playing their first year of bowls they bowled sensationally in the final. And Launceston’s Paul Costello won this year’s Bowls North Novice Title.

In the Women’s event it came down to three competitors due to a late withdrawal. Elaine Henricks from lnvermay played Georgetown Janet McMullen with Elaine wining and then taking on Carlene Reid from West Launceston in the final. Both Ladies’ played brilliantly and both ladies said after the game they learnt a lot from competing in this event. Elaine Henricks from lnvermay went on to win the title this year.
