BOWLS NORTH REPORT FROM BN JUNIOR COACH RAE SIMPSON

Well, what a day it was for our Bowls North juniors in the final round of Statewide Challenge held at Longford today.
After procuring no points in Round 1 and 7.5 points in Round 2 in Hobart last month, our amazing crop of juniors took the honours today with an amazing 15 points.
In the morning games,Ryan Ferguson and Dylan Samphier won their pairs against the NW by two shots whilst Blake Jones, Chloe Collins and Henry Hollingsworth were on fire winning their Triples game 38-2!
James Jones and Lachie Strochnetter played some outstanding bowls but couldn’t overcome the brilliance of Southern skip Lucas Howell whilst the other BN Triples combination of Grace Jones, Jack Watson and Fletcher Felmingham went down by 10 in a game where the score didn’t reflect the standard of play.
But it was the afternoon session that saw some outstanding bowling from the Northern team.
Ryan Ferguson led the way with a brilliant singles win over the North West whilst Fletcher Felmingham played some outstanding bowls in his singles game but was beaten by his Southern opponent who managed to “hit the jack” an inordinate amount of times whilst drawing.
Our two teams of fours played some of the best bowls of the series to take the rest of the points on offer.
Blake Jones, Chloe Collins, Peter Daines and Henry Hollingsworth combined brilliantly to beat South whilst Grace Jones, James Jones, Trey Daines and Ollie Morrison took the game right up to their North West opponents.
With two ends to play and one down on the scoreboard, Morrison played two amazing skip’s bowls – he drew a toucher with his first to hold shot and with his second, he trailed the jack two feet to pick up a five which ultimately secured the win.
Bowls North finished the day with 15 points with five wins from eight disciplines.
It has been amazing to watch the improvement of our juniors since the beginning of the season.
Each and every one of them has worked so hard and they truly deserved the results they achieved today!
To all of those involved with the BN juniors – from the parents, the grandparents, the brothers and sisters to Dennis and Vicki Bassett, Billie Healey, Les Harrison, Geoffrey Anderson, Mark Strochnetter, Kings Meadows, North Launceston and Longford Bowls Club – I just want to say a huge thank you!
Without you all, today’s results wouldn’t have happened.
And to all the Bowls North juniors, you’re amazing and I’m so very proud of your achievements this season.
I look forward to working with you over the winter and I’m excited to see what sort of results can be achieved next season!
Good bowling to you for the rest of 2020/21! ❤️❤️❤️
