BN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020

JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bowls North Junior Championship were held over three days at North Launceston Bowls Club. The juniors display great sportsmanship throughout the three-day event. The ability of the Junior who are coming through the ranks is unbelievable and spectators was treated to some magnificent games.

PAIRS

The pairs championship was three games and the two best qualifiers proceed into the final.  There were some very close games played. With the team of Healey/Ferguson 6 points + 36 and McCarthy/Morrison 4 points + 19 playing off in the final.

Brothers Bayley & Oliver from Midlands bowls club started very well in the final winning the first three ends before Healey/Ferguson scored, then Bayley & Oliver won a further three ends to be in front at the eleventh end 21 to 4. Healey/Ferguson won the next three but were unable to gain the shots they needed. Final Scores McCarthy/Morrison 21 to Healey/Ferguson 9

SINGLES

Four sections competed in the singles championships. Junior games were played to 15 up.

SECTION WINNERS:

Section1: J Watson – 6 points + 20
Section 2: O Morrison – 6 points + 28
Section 3: B McCarthy – 6 points + 32
Section 4: B Healey – 6 points +23

Jack Watson lined up against Bayley McCarthy in semi-final one and Billie Healey played Oliver Morrison the second semi-final. Bayley started well, with Jack played some impressive shots and the game was locked at 14 all. Bayley scored the one shot he needed to win the game. Oliver skipped away in his game against Billie. Billie won four consecutive ends to have the game scores at Oliver 14 to Billie 13. Whoever won the next end would go through to the final. Oliver gained the one shot he needed and set up an encounter against his brother.

In the final Bayley won four ends before Oliver was able to score, then Oliver won the next three ends, but Bayley was out drawing his brother in the game and continued the takeout the BN Junior singles championship for 2019-20.

TRIPLES

Triples championship where held on the last day of the three-day event, with teams playing three games and who ever had the most point & shots at the conclusion of these games was declared the winner.

At the end of the 3 rounds the BN Junior Triples champions was Logyn Curtis, Oliver Morrison, Isabella Hopkins, 6 points + 16. Runner up for 2019-20 was Ryan Ferguson, Henry Hollingsworth & Blake Jones 4 points + 10.
